Financial Literacy Month- Business Development

During Financial Literacy Month, we often talk about budgets, credit scores, and saving strategies. But financial literacy isn’t just about numbers—it’s about people, conversations, and everyday moments that shape someone’s financial future. At NorthWinds Federal Credit Union, that’s where Business Development comes in.

Meet Paul Wirth, a familiar face in our community and a driving force behind many of the connections we build every day. With decades of experience in the credit union world, Paul’s role goes far beyond networking. He helps individuals and businesses better understand their financial options and feel confident in the decisions they make. And his message is simple: financial literacy isn’t a department, it’s something we all do.

Different. Busy. Slow. Wait. Hurry. Names. People. Smile. Hot. Cold. Night. Day.

That’s a day in the life of someone in Business Development. It’s not a job, it’s a privilege. And we love every minute of it. Every single day, we have the opportunity to make a positive difference. And the best part? So do you.

Start with a smile—even when you don’t feel like it. Why? Because that one simple act might change someone else’s day… and even your own. It might even open the door to a meaningful conversation. Walking in my shoes is, first and foremost, AWESOME. My role at NorthWinds Federal Credit Union is to connect people and businesses with products and services that can truly change lives—financially, emotionally, and even physically. I’ve been fortunate to do this in the credit union world since 2000.

I’ve heard incredible stories:

  • Helping bring adopted children home from across the world
  • Supporting a family through job loss by lowering a car payment by $300 a month
  • Making life easier with something as simple as setting up direct deposit
  • Ensuring peace of mind after an accident because the right coverage was in place
  • Watching a newborn grow up to become a member—buying their first car, heading to college, and purchasing a home

Yes… I’ve seen that full circle. And it’s amazing. We get to be a light in someone’s financial path. The world is constantly changing, and we change with it—adapting, growing, and embracing new technology and processes. But through it all, we’re right here, walking alongside our members every step of the way.

And it’s not just me.

It’s a whole family.

At NorthWinds, we have a team of people who genuinely care about helping others. I’ve even been called the “Rally Monkey” by a coworker—but the truth is, it takes all of us. We partner with incredible organizations and businesses that share the same mission:

  • Supporting CAP Agency food shelves
  • Working with Southern Valley Alliance to help victims of domestic violence
  • Serving meals with Smoke Signals to seniors and those in need

We don’t do this alone. It takes a village.

I’m proud to be part of a team of nearly 40 individuals who are committed to helping not just our members, but their families, neighbors, and communities. We’ve been here, we’re here now, and we’re building for generations to come—creating stronger, smarter, and more financially healthy communities.

Because at the end of the day… Business Development isn’t just a department. It’s something we all do.

Changing lives—and truly blessed,

Paul Wirth
